Mission Statement

Our Mission:

Founded in 2012, the non-profit, all-volunteer SLESEF works with the SLES principal, teachers, parents, and PTA, as well as the community at large to achieve the following goals:

1. Help enrich the quality of education for all SLES students through projects and programs beyond the scope of regular funding sources. This commitment to improving the learning environment and supporting academic achievement includes:

  • Supporting professional development for teachers
  • Providing funds for capital improvements, technology upgrades, and books and supplies
  • Funding field trips to meet specific educational objectives

2. Reflect the school’s unique connection to the C&O Canal. Commitment to the school’s heritage includes:

  • Supporting the SLES curriculum partnership with the C&O Canal National Park Service
  • Installing and maintaining Canal-themed “conservation education” landscaping

3. Strengthen the school’s relationship with the wider community. Outreach includes:

  • Working with local, Maryland, and Federal governmental agencies, other non-profits, and the surrounding Seven Locks community
  • Seeking grants and other connections that bring unique opportunities to Seven Locks students
